# Geekvape tank, an investigation into the Zeus family tree

> Geekvape tank, from Zeus to the letter Z. Which glass, coils and diameters the range really shares, and what one name hides across ten tanks.

One glass tube fits an older rebuildable and a recent clearomiser alike, yet it does not hold the same amount of liquid on each. That kind of detail says more about a **Geekvape tank** than any product listing. Behind the letter Z, the brand has built a family whose members look alike and lend each other parts, without being fully interchangeable. This investigation traces the lineage, one component at a time.

## What a Geekvape tank actually is today

A **Geekvape tank** today almost always means a member of the Z range, the former Zeus line renamed with a single letter. Under that name sit clearomisers with factory made coils (Z Sub-ohm, Z Fli, Z Subohm 5, Z Nano 3, Z Max) and two rebuildables, the ZX II RTA and the Tsunami Reborn Z dripper.

Nearly all of them draw air in at the top of the tank, a layout meant to limit leaks. Diameter, glass and coil series, on the other hand, change from one model to the next.

## From Zeus to Z, the family tree

Geekvape Technology was founded in 2015 and first made its name in rebuildables, with the Griffin RTA launched in 2016. The Zeus line was born in that same territory.

### Three generations of rebuildables

The first Zeus RTA was a single coil atomiser with top airflow. A Dual version followed to take two coils, then came the Zeus X, with a 25 mm postless deck that accepts one or two builds, a double chimney designed to steer air back towards the coils, and a Mesh variant.

### The move to clearomisers

The turning point came with the Zeus Subohm Tank, a clearomiser with ready made coils, later renamed Z, which kept the top airflow of its elders. On the product page Geekvape still maintains, the Z Sub-ohm measures 26 mm, holds 5 ml in its standard edition and takes 0.2 and 0.4 ohm mesh coils.

The variants build on the same base. The Z Sub-ohm SE adds a lock on the tank opening, the Z Fli a flip top cap and a marked airflow ring, the Z Subohm 5 a push to fill top. On the compact side, the Z Nano 2 and then the Z Nano 3 open a separate branch.

## Rebuildable or clearomiser, two families under one name

The word atomiser covers two families that Geekvape files under the same letter, and the difference matters most for maintenance. Our [overview of the four atomiser architectures](/uk/vape-atomiser/) sets out the wider classification.

On the rebuildable side, the 26 mm ZX II RTA holds 4.5 ml in its standard edition and takes a mesh strip the user fits by hand, on a deck compatible with the ZX RTA before it. The Tsunami Reborn Z is a dual coil dripper with no tank, and breaks the top airflow habit with side slots.

On the clearomiser side, the coil arrives fitted from the factory and swaps out in seconds. That branch accounts for eight of the ten tanks in the manufacturer's current catalogue.

## The coil map, three series rather than one

The letter Z suggests a single coil for the whole range. In reality the range splits across three coil series, and settings that suit one do not suit another.

### Z Series for the larger tanks

The Z Sub-ohm, Z SE, Z Fli and Z Subohm 5 take the Z Series. Its XM Boost generation comes in 0.15 ohm (70 to 85 W), 0.2 ohm (70 to 80 W) and 0.4 ohm (50 to 60 W), all built for direct lung vaping. Our [guide to both Z coil ranges](/uk/z-coil-guide/) covers these values in depth.

### B Series for the Nano branch

The Z Nano 2 and Z Nano 3 switch to the B Series, which reaches down to a restricted draw with 0.6, 0.8 and 1.2 ohm values.

At the same resistance, the two series do not run at the same power. A 0.4 ohm Z coil works between 50 and 60 W, a B coil of the same value between 25 and 35 W, and the gap stays clear at 0.2 ohm (70 to 80 W against 50 to 58 W). Carrying a setting over from one series to the other therefore lands outside the intended range.

### M Series, the Z Max exception

The Z Max stands apart with its own M Series, in 0.14 ohm (60 to 80 W) and 0.2 ohm (70 to 85 W). Despite its name, that is the series to buy as replacements.

## What every Geekvape tank shares, and what it does not

Spare parts deliver the most telling finding of the investigation, between parts that have circulated for generations and parts that change without warning.

### One glass for seven bodies

The Zeus glass tube fits the Zeus Dual, Zeus X and Zeus X Mesh rebuildables as well as the Z Sub-ohm, Z SE, Z Fli and Z Subohm 5 clearomisers. Even so, the same glass does not give the same volume everywhere. The internal chimney of the Zeus X brings the 5.5 ml bulb down to 4.5 ml of usable capacity, where the Z Sub-ohm quotes 5 ml with the same part.

UK rules cap a refillable tank at 2 ml, which is why Geekvape produces a TPD edition of most of these tanks with 2 ml glass, the configuration British law allows on a shop shelf. The larger bulb figures above therefore describe standard editions only, and the same framework limits nicotine e-liquid to 20 mg/ml in bottles of 10 ml at most.

### A diameter that is not inherited

No family rule fixes the diameter. The Zeus X measures 25 mm, the Z Sub-ohm and the ZX II RTA 26 mm, while the Z Nano 3 sits on a 24 mm base. The Z Max peaks at 32 mm on a 26 mm base, so on a narrow mod it is the width of the glass, not the base, that decides whether the tank overhangs.

## Three profiles, three tanks

For high power direct lung vaping with thick, high VG liquids, the Z Subohm 5 is the answer, with coils running from 50 to 85 W. The Z Nano 3 plays the versatile role, from 0.15 to 1.2 ohm without changing tank. As for the ZX II RTA, it is aimed at those who build their own coils.

## When things go wrong, leaks and flooding

Top airflow limits leaks without ruling them all out, and liquid seeping around the glass nearly always has a mechanical cause or a coil at the end of its life.

When replacing the glass, Geekvape asks you to check the position of the seal and swap it for the spare if it is worn. A new coil should sit in contact with liquid for three to five minutes before the first puff, and needs replacing once the flavour fades or tastes burnt.

If the mod shows an error message instead of firing, the problem has become electrical. Our [guide to the no coil detected message](/uk/no-coil-detected-guide/) walks through that diagnosis.

## FAQ

The questions that come up most often when buying a tank from the range or a replacement part.

### Can you vape with a restricted draw on a Z range tank?

Not on the larger tanks, whose XM Boost coils are designed for direct lung and which the manufacturer advises against using with nicotine salts. A restricted draw belongs to the Nano branch and its B coils from 0.6 to 1.2 ohm, and Geekvape even lists a Z Nano MTL Tank among the tanks compatible with that series.

### Will an XM Boost coil fit an older Z Sub-ohm?

Yes. Geekvape states that the XM Boost generation keeps the same interface as earlier Z coils and fits any device designed for the Z Series. The power to respect remains the range quoted for the chosen reference.

### How much liquid does a coil last before wearing out?

The manufacturer quotes roughly 50 to 60 ml of liquid for a Z XM Boost coil and for a B Boost coil alike, and 20 to 30 ml for a B coil meant for a restricted draw. Those figures move with power, VG content and how often you take a puff.

### Does a Geekvape tank screw onto a mod from another brand?

As a rule, yes. The Z Subohm 5, for example, uses a standard 510 connection, the thread found on most mods, so it sits on a box from another manufacturer without an adaptor.

### What sets the Z Fli 2 apart from the first Z Fli?

The Z Fli 2 keeps the flip top cap of the first model but tightens it to prevent accidental opening, with a rated life of more than 3,000 openings according to the manufacturer's own testing. It also adds a Damascus steel pattern to the body of the tank.

## Choosing a Geekvape tank by its coil and its glass

The letter Z works as a commercial signature rather than a technical standard. It gathers tanks that share top airflow and sometimes a glass, yet spread across three coil series and diameters from 24 to 32 mm.

Before buying a tank or a part, three checks are enough, the coil series, the glass format and the width at the widest point. That method holds for all vaping hardware, and the **Geekvape tank** simply offers the clearest example of it.
